Porter Park is located in central Evanston, directly adjacent to the Metra Union Pacific North Line tracks. The park contains two full-size baseball diamonds with bleachers, a lighted soccer field, and two tennis courts. A 0.6-mile asphalt loop circles the grounds, used by residents for walking and jogging. The park also includes a playground with equipment suitable for ages 2–12, restrooms, and drinking fountains. Mature trees provide shade along the eastern edge, and the open central lawn is frequently used for informal picnics and kite flying. The park is three blocks north of downtown Evanston’s Davis Street commercial district, which contains grocery stores, restaurants, and the Evanston Public Library. It is also one block east of the King Arts Center and two blocks west of the Robert Crown Community Center, both operated by the Evanston Park District. Street parking is available on adjacent residential blocks, and the park is served by CTA bus routes 201 and 206.
