Prairie Park occupies 75 acres along the Fox River in Elgin and is designed for active use. A 3-mile paved trail runs through the park, connecting to the Fox River Trail and giving residents direct access to a 40-mile regional route for cycling and running. The park includes a 17-acre off-leash dog area with separate zones for large and small dogs, plus a fenced agility course. Three baseball and softball diamonds, two soccer fields, and a playground with modern equipment sit near the main parking lot. A fishing pier extends into the river, and the shoreline is maintained for kayakers and canoeists. The park’s open prairies are seeded with native grasses and wildflowers that attract pollinators and migratory birds, and the site is part of the Illinois Nature Preserve system. Restrooms, drinking fountains, and picnic shelters are located at both the north and south entrances, and the park is a short drive from downtown Elgin’s Metra station and Route 20 retail corridor.
