River Esplanade Park, Chicago, IL
River Esplanade Park occupies a narrow, three-mile stretch of riverfront between the North Branch Canal and the Chicago River. Two paved multi-use trails run the length of the park, one at street level and one at water level, connecting directly to the North Branch Trail at the north end and the Chicago Riverwalk at the south. The park contains eight fixed benches, four picnic tables, and a public kayak launch at Kinzie Street. Two pedestrian bridges provide access to the east bank, and the Kinzie Railroad Bridge overhead creates a shaded segment of the lower trail. Vegetation consists of native grasses and scattered trees, with open sight-lines to the water. The park sits within two blocks of the Merchandise Mart CTA station and the East Bank Club, and within four blocks of several grocery stores and restaurants along Chicago Avenue.
