Robert Everly Wildflower Sanctuary, Glencoe, IL

Robert Everly Wildflower Sanctuary in Glencoe occupies 40 acres of restored tallgrass prairie and oak woodland along the North Shore. The preserve features a 1.5-mile loop trail that begins at the main parking area on Dundee Road and winds through seasonal wildflower displays, including prairie smoke and shooting star. A boardwalk section crosses a sedge meadow that attracts migratory waterfowl each spring and fall. The sanctuary sits three-quarters of a mile west of the Glencoe Metra station, providing direct rail access to downtown Chicago in under 40 minutes. Two picnic shelters and a drinking fountain are located near the trailhead, and the site is open daily from sunrise to sunset with no entry fee. Adjacent to the Chicago Botanic Garden and connected to the Green Bay Trail, the sanctuary offers residents a convenient outdoor recreation area without leaving the village limits.
