Shoe Factory Road Prairie Nature Preserve, Hoffman Estates, IL

Shoe Factory Road Prairie Nature Preserve covers 134 acres of preserved tallgrass prairie and wetland in northwest Hoffman Estates. A 1.4-mile crushed-stone loop trail skirts the edges of the preserve and passes through open meadows where native wildflowers bloom from spring through fall. The trail connects to the Poplar Creek Trail, giving residents direct access to the 26-mile regional path system for walking, running, and cycling. Several observation decks overlook restored wetland cells that attract waterfowl and shorebirds, especially during spring and fall migrations. The preserve is adjacent to the 200-acre Poplar Creek Forest Preserve and lies one mile west of the Prairie Stone Sports & Wellness Center, which offers an aquatic center, fitness equipment, and indoor courts. Daily commuters can reach I-90 in under five minutes, while the Northwest Community Hospital campus and the Prairie Stone business park are both within a three-mile drive.
