Silver Springs State Fish and Wildlife Area covers 1,350 acres of land and water immediately adjacent to Yorkville. Its 16 miles of trails accommodate hiking, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing, while the Fox River segment provides designated canoe and kayak launches. Fishing is permitted on the 105-acre Silver Spring Lake and along the river, with boat rentals available on site. The park also includes a public shooting range, a model airplane field, and an archery range. Picnic shelters, restrooms, and drinking water are located at multiple trailheads. Because the park is managed by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, its facilities and hours are posted daily, giving residents predictable access to outdoor recreation without leaving the city limits.
