South Park occupies 24 acres in central Deerfield and includes three baseball diamonds, two lighted tennis courts, and a playground with modern equipment. A paved multi-use trail runs along the park’s northern edge, connecting to the 20-mile North Shore Bike Path and allowing residents to reach downtown Deerfield on foot or bicycle in under fifteen minutes. The park is bordered by mature oak and maple trees that provide shade over picnic shelters and open lawns. Immediately south of the park, Deerfield Public Library and the Deerfield Metra station sit within a five-minute walk, while Deerfield High School and its athletic fields lie two blocks to the east. A small stream channel runs through the southeast corner, bordered by native plantings maintained by the Park District. Seasonal programs at the park include youth baseball leagues and adult tennis lessons run by the Deerfield Park District.
