Steelworkers Park, Chicago, IL

Steelworkers Park occupies a 5-acre site along the Calumet River in Chicago’s South Deering neighborhood. The park features 1.1 miles of paved paths that connect to the larger Burnham Trail network, allowing residents to bike or walk south toward Wolf Lake and north toward the Lake Calumet trail system. A fishing pier extends over the river, and the shoreline includes restored native plantings that support local bird species. Picnic shelters and grills are available on a first-come basis, while a children’s playground with rubber surfacing and climbing structures occupies the central lawn. The park is adjacent to the 95th Street Metra Electric Line station, providing a 30-minute ride to Millennium Station, and sits within a mile of the Ford Calumet Environmental Center and several grocery stores along 95th Street. On-site parking accommodates roughly 80 vehicles, and the park is open daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
