Stephen J. Grek Park covers 43 acres along the south shore of Island Lake and provides residents with direct access to the water. The park includes a 1.2-mile paved trail that runs around the perimeter and connects to the regional Prairie Trail, allowing cyclists and pedestrians to travel between Wauconda, Island Lake, and Port Barrington without entering roadways. A public boat launch with trailer parking accommodates small watercraft, while a fishing pier extends into the lake for shoreline angling. Picnic shelters with grills and restrooms are available on a first-come basis, and an open athletic field is used for informal soccer and frisbee. Mature oak and hickory trees shade the shoreline, and the park’s location on the lake’s south side places it within a short drive of Route 12 retail centers and the Island Lake Metra station.
