Sunset Park sits on the western edge of Lake in the Hills and covers roughly 38 acres of rolling terrain. A 1.3-mile paved loop trail winds through open fields and stands of oak and hickory, connecting to the 4.5-mile Lake in the Hills Fen Trail system that leads to the 537-acre Fen Conservation Area. Two playgrounds, a sand volleyball court, and six lighted tennis courts sit near the main parking lot, while a separate area holds four baseball/softball diamonds and a concession stand used by youth leagues. A fishing pier extends into Sunset Lake, stocked annually with rainbow trout by the McHenry County Conservation District. The park borders the 18-hole Whisper Creek Golf Course, and its northern edge lies within a five-minute drive of the Algonquin Commons retail corridor along Randall Road.
