Tharp Park, Tinley Park, IL

Tharp Park covers 47 acres in central Tinley Park, with four lighted baseball diamonds, three soccer fields, and two playgrounds that draw families throughout the year. A 1.2-mile paved loop circles the park’s retention pond, where residents walk, jog, or bike on flat terrain with benches spaced every quarter-mile. Mature oak and maple trees line the northern edge, providing shade for picnickers at the two covered shelters equipped with grills and electrical outlets. The park also contains a sand volleyball court, horseshoe pits, and restrooms open from April through October. Its location at 171st Street and Ridgeland Avenue places it within a five-minute drive of the Tinley Park Metra station, the municipal library, and the 83rd Street commercial corridor with grocery stores and restaurants. Seasonal youth baseball and soccer leagues use the fields, and the Tinley Park Park District schedules free outdoor movie nights on the central lawn during summer months.
