Thorndale Park, South Holland, IL
Thorndale Park occupies 33 acres along the Little Calumet River in South Holland, Illinois. A paved multi-use trail runs the length of the park, connecting to the Cal-Sag Trail system for longer rides or runs. The park contains two playgrounds, a splash pad, two lighted baseball diamonds, four tennis courts, and an 18-hole disc golf course. Picnic shelters, grills, and restrooms support group events. A fishing pier extends into a stocked pond, and a canoe launch provides river access. Mature oak and maple trees shade large sections of the grounds, and several observation decks overlook the river. The park sits one mile west of the Thorn Creek Forest Preserve and three miles north of the South Holland Public Library and Village Hall. The Thorn Creek Bicycle Shop and several grocery stores lie within a ten-minute drive.
