Thornton-Lansing Road Nature Preserve spans 505 acres of rolling woodland, wetland, and restored prairie in southern Cook County. A 2.5-mile crushed-limestone trail loops through oak-hickory forest and along the edge of a cattail marsh, offering birders year-round sightings of warblers, woodpeckers, and waterfowl. Two observation decks overlook the marsh, and a small picnic shelter with tables and grills sits near the main parking lot off Thornton-Lansing Road. The preserve connects directly to the Old Plank Road Trail, allowing residents to bicycle or jog east toward Homewood or west toward the Thorn Creek Forest Preserve complex. The site lies less than five minutes from Interstate 294 and within a short drive of downtown Flossmoor’s Metra station, grocery stores, and restaurants, giving residents quick access to both open space and daily conveniences.
