Timber Ridge County Forest Preserve offers 1,143 acres of protected woodlands, prairies, and wetlands adjacent to several established West Chicago neighborhoods. The preserve maintains over 10 miles of multi-use trails, including a crushed-limestone path that accommodates both hiking and biking and connects to the regional Prairie Path system. Anglers can access Timber Lake’s shoreline for catch-and-release fishing, while the adjacent picnic shelters and playgrounds provide space for family gatherings. A 27-hole disc golf course and designated equestrian trails serve specialized recreational interests. The preserve’s elevated ridges and open meadows create unobstructed views of the surrounding landscape, and its location along the Union Pacific West Line places Metra commuters within a five-minute drive of the downtown West Chicago station. Regular programs on native habitat restoration and wildlife monitoring are hosted at the on-site nature center.
