Tyler Creek Forest Preserve covers 1,191 acres along the Fox River in Elgin and is managed by the Kane County Forest Preserve District. The preserve features 7.5 miles of multi-use trails that accommodate hiking, biking, and equestrian use, with a 2.5-mile segment designated for cross-country skiing in winter. An archery range, fishing ponds stocked with bluegill and largemouth bass, and a picnic shelter with restrooms and drinking water support day-long outings. The site also contains restored tallgrass prairie, oak-hickory woodland, and 40 acres of wetlands that attract waterfowl and songbirds. Visitors reach the preserve via the 40-mile Fox River Trail, which links directly to downtown Elgin’s Metra station and the city’s library and recreation centers, providing a continuous corridor between residential neighborhoods and open space without requiring a car.
