Waubonsie Wetland, Oswego, IL

Waubonsie Wetland occupies 241 acres in northwest Oswego and features three miles of flat, crushed-limestone trails that loop around marshes, prairie plantings, and a small lake. The main parking area at the Waubonsie Trailhead on Wolfs Crossing Road includes restrooms, a drinking fountain, and an information kiosk. Visitors can fish from two accessible piers, launch non-motorized boats, or watch waterfowl from designated observation decks. The site is directly adjacent to the Oswegoland Civic Center, so residents can combine a wetland walk with indoor fitness classes or youth sports programs. Oswego High School lies one-half mile east, and downtown Oswego—home to grocery stores, restaurants, and the Metra BNSF line—is less than two miles away via Route 34. The preserve also connects to the 1.4-mile Prairie Point Trail, which continues east toward Prairie Point Park and its playground and splash pad.
