Wolf Road Prairie Nature Preserve covers 85 acres of rare tallgrass prairie in Westchester, offering residents direct access to 3.5 miles of maintained trails through remnant and restored prairie, wetland, and savanna habitat. The preserve includes a 1.25-mile loop trail with boardwalks over wet areas and a 2-mile segment of the Illinois Prairie Path for longer walks or bicycle rides. Picnic tables and a parking area are located off Wolf Road, and the site is open daily from sunrise to sunset. From the trails, visitors can see more than 300 native plant species, including compass plant and prairie dock, and may observe birds such as Henslow’s sparrows and bobolinks during breeding season. The preserve is bordered by residential streets on two sides, placing trailheads within a short walk or bike ride from several Westchester neighborhoods. It also lies one mile south of the Proviso West High School campus and less than two miles from the Westchester Public Library and the Westchester Town Center commercial district.
Wolf Road Prairie Nature Preserve currently has 1 single family home for sale, 5 townhouses for sale, and 2 condos for sale.
