Sellers just made a dramatic drop in price to get this sold before interest rates go up. This row of homes is somewhat a secret in North Kenwood. When these homes were built, most people only knew of the row of homes facing Lake Park Ave. They never realized that there were actually 3 more rows behind that first row, all protected by a pedestrian & an electronic car gate. This particular row home, 4649 C, sits in the middle of the very last & most private row of homes facing the lake. There is a lovely retaining wall at the end of the walk behind which are the railway lines of Metra and the 3 freight trains that roll by every 24 hours. What is so special about this setting is that there is wide open sky above the tracks and the thick stand of trees just beyond which line the nature sanctuary between the train rails and Lake Shore Drive. During the summer, it is like looking at a forest preserve. In the winter, you get a wide open view of the lake. But all year around, you feel like you are on a short and very private block: a quick walk to the Metra and the #6 express bus that stops at 47th St & then whisks you downtown on LSD. There is a shopping center across the street with the famous Original Pancake House, a Binney's and other stores, and you are just blocks from the Whole Foods and all the great shops and restaurants that make Hyde Park so special. This house is practically new and has been gently used. Built in 2016, it has upgrades that the owners picked. There is an interior sprinkler system (which are rarely found in private residences), 92% high efficiency furnace, Tyvek housewrap, R-30 insulation in the roof & R-13 in the outer walls, solid core doors and CAT 5 wiring. The entry level has a big airy family room, but it could easily be closed off to create a 4th bedroom. But what a great home office it could be as well. There is a half bath on this level, the HVAC closet and the big 2+car attached garage. On the main floor, the living room, dining room & kitchen all flow together for great entertaining. The kitchen has white shaker cabinets, quartz countertops, subway tile backsplash, stainless steel appliances & a laundry closet with side by side full size laundry machines and additional storage. The balcony off the kitchen beckons for al fresco dining. There is also another half bath off the kitchen. The living room has a gas fireplace, & above it is a rack for a TV with cable wiring. Upstairs on the 3rd level is the big primary bedroom which spans the entire width of the front of the house with big windows looking out at that most private of views. There is a big walk-in closet fitted out with closet organizers and drawers. The en-suite bath has a separate tiled shower stall with glass door & soaking tub and a small private room for the toilet. The double sink vanity is topped with a granite counter. There are two more bedrooms on this level & a hall bath with a shower/tub combination and a granite topped vanity. One last flight up and the world becomes yours. It's a big expansive deck with views to the city & lake. So much space in this home to stretch out, both inside and out. You just can't live closer to the lake in this neighborhood. Hop on the lake shore bike path & you can pedal your way past the marinas and the prairie gardens to the Loop or south to the the Cultural Center and beyond. The University of Chicago and its hospitals are close by. It's great to have a recently built home. All the original developer quirks have been resolved by the original owners, so you should have many years of low maintenance living before you. The developer said there was 2,120 of conditioned space and 2,523 total sq ft including the big two car garage which takes up half of the entry floor & 96 sq ft of roof deck. These owners extended the roof deck to cover the entire roof, so there is actually much more usable sq footage on the roof. When you need to stay at home, how wonderful to have so much space, light & privacy.
