Cypress Lakes Golf Course in Hope Mills, North Carolina, was designed by Gene Hamm and opened in 1970. The layout occupies a former tobacco farm and features a network of drainage ditches and small ponds that come into play on several holes. Bermuda grass covers the fairways and greens, which are maintained to USGA specifications. The course is bordered on two sides by residential streets and a Norfolk Southern rail line, while the remaining perimeter adjoins mixed pine-hardwood stands. Elevation changes are modest, rarely exceeding fifteen feet, and the terrain is generally flat except for low mounding around several greens. A driving range with both natural turf and artificial mats sits adjacent to the first tee, and a modest clubhouse houses a pro shop and grill. Irrigation is supplied by on-site wells drawing from the Cape Fear River aquifer.
