Glen View Club occupies 160 acres of gently rolling terrain northwest of Chicago in Golf, Illinois. The course was designed in 1897 by Tom Bendelow and later modified by Donald Ross in the 1920s. Fairways are framed by mature oak and maple stands, and the rough is kept deliberately firm and fast. Several holes play across or along the North Branch of the Chicago River, creating natural water hazards that come into play on at least four holes. The greens, originally seeded with Poa annua, were converted to bentgrass in the late 1990s and are maintained at speeds between 10.5 and 11.5 on the Stimpmeter. Bunkers are edged with stacked sod and filled with a local tan-colored sand that drains quickly after rain. The routing alternates between open, wind-exposed holes on the front nine and more tree-lined holes on the back, where elevation changes of up to 25 feet require careful club selection. Cart paths are asphalt and confined to the perimeter, preserving the ground-game options that Ross intended.
