Sea Island Golf Club’s Seaside Course sits on the eastern edge of St. Simons Island, where the fairways run parallel to the Atlantic shoreline and the salt marshes that separate the island from the mainland. The layout was first routed by H.S. Colt and C.H. Alison in 1928, then restored and updated by Rees Jones in the late 1990s to restore the original ground contours and reintroduce native grasses. The course is characterized by low, rolling dunes that frame most landing areas, small, firm greens that slope toward the prevailing wind, and occasional tidal creeks that cross the lower holes. Because the site is narrow and exposed, wind direction changes hole by hole and can shift several times during a round. Maintenance practices emphasize firm, fast conditions; the bentgrass putting surfaces are rolled daily and mowed at heights that allow for controlled run-up shots. The routing alternates between holes that hug the beachfront and those set farther inland among live oaks and saw palmetto, providing a contrast in both wind exposure and visual scale.
