Stone Canyon Club sits in the foothills northwest of Tucson where the Sonoran Desert meets the Santa Catalina Mountains. The course was designed by Jay Morrish and Tom Weiskopf and opened in 2000. Fairways follow the natural contours of ancient alluvial fans, threading through stands of saguaro, ocotillo, and palo verde. Greens are built to USGA specifications and are typically firm, with subtle breaks that reward approach shots played below the hole. Several holes play across dry washes that channel monsoon runoff, requiring carries that vary with pin placement. The routing alternates between wide, open stretches on the upper plateau and tighter corridors set against rocky outcrops. Native landscaping is preserved wherever possible, and cart paths are the only substantial grading on most holes. The high-desert air and elevation produce noticeably less resistance than sea-level courses, though afternoon winds can appear without warning. Water is limited to a few small ponds that come into play on the inward nine.
