The Beech Mountain Club occupies a high-elevation site in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Banner Elk, North Carolina. The course climbs and drops across steep ridges and narrow valleys, creating constant changes in elevation between tee and green. Fairways are often perched on shelves carved into the slope, with thick stands of beech, oak, and hemlock framing most landing areas. Several holes cross ravines on elevated tees or forced carries, while others follow the natural fall line of the terrain, producing pronounced sidehill lies. Greens are built to USGA standards and vary in size; some tilt sharply from back to front, while others present subtle contours that reward precise approach angles. Bunkering is minimal but strategically placed, typically guarding the low side of a green or the inside corner of a dogleg. Wind can shift abruptly because of the elevation, and cool mountain air frequently affects ball flight even in summer. The combination of grade changes, dense tree lines, and firm, fast conditions demands accurate club selection and controlled shot shaping throughout the round.
