The Golden Bear Club at Keene’s Point was designed by Jack Nicklaus and opened in 2000 on a peninsula formed by the Butler Chain of Lakes. The course incorporates three distinct landforms—wetlands, oak hammocks, and lakeside ridges—creating a varied playing surface that demands strategic shot selection rather than raw distance. Bent-grass greens are firm and undulating, while the fairways are planted in Celebration bermuda. Water touches fourteen holes, most notably on the closing stretch where the 16th, 17th, and 18th skirt Lake Butler. Native vegetation, including cypress and sabal palms, frames many landing areas, and several waste bunkers filled with crushed coquina shell serve as both hazards and drainage features. The practice facility includes a short-game complex with multiple target greens and a 10-acre driving range that parallels a narrow canal. Membership is private, and the club maintains an active junior golf program in partnership with local schools.
