Urbana Golf & Country Club sits on the edge of the University of Illinois campus and is one of the oldest private clubs in east-central Illinois. The course was laid out in 1904 and redesigned by Donald Ross in 1923, whose influence remains visible in the small, crowned greens and strategic bunkering. Fairways are lined with mature oak and hickory trees that create tight driving lines, especially on the back nine where the terrain rolls more noticeably. Several holes play across small creeks that wind through the property, requiring precise tee shots on the par-4 fourth and the reachable par-5 thirteenth. The club maintains bent-grass greens year-round, and the rough is kept at a uniform length that punishes only the most wayward shots. Practice facilities include a short-game area with multiple target greens and a separate range that runs parallel to the first fairway. The clubhouse, a two-story brick structure built in 1926, houses a modest pro shop and a dining room that overlooks the eighteenth green.
