Wildwood Golf Course occupies a level tract of northern Wisconsin forest just west of Minocqua. The layout follows the natural contours of the land, weaving between stands of red and white pine, with fairways lined by low-lying huckleberry and ferns. Several holes run alongside or across small spring-fed ponds that remain open through much of the season. The course uses a mixture of bentgrass and native fescue, which requires less irrigation and retains a firm playing surface even after rain. Bunkers are modest in size, edged with wooden timbers and filled with local sand. Cart paths are gravel rather than asphalt, and the absence of homes or commercial buildings along the perimeter keeps the setting quiet. Maintenance focuses on hand-mowing the greens daily and verticutting weekly during peak growth, practices that produce consistent but not overly soft putting surfaces.
