Willoughby Golf Club sits on the banks of the St. Lucie River in Stuart, Florida. The course, opened in 1988, was designed by architect Joe Lee. Its layout includes several holes that hug the river’s shoreline and others that weave through stands of native pine and palm. Water hazards appear on fourteen holes, often in the form of finger lakes or canals that cut across fairways. The greens are planted with TifEagle bermudagrass and maintained at tournament speeds. Cart paths are paved and separated from play by low wooden bulkheads. Practice facilities include a driving range with both natural turf and mats, plus a short-game area with multiple target greens. The clubhouse, a single-story stucco building with a clay-tile roof, contains a pro shop, locker rooms, and a dining room that overlooks the eighteenth green and the river beyond.
