County Farm Woods Forest Preserve spans 339 acres of wooded terrain and open fields west of DeKalb. A 2.3-mile crushed-stone trail loops through the property, connecting to the paved DeKalb Nature Trail at the preserve’s eastern edge and providing direct access to downtown DeKalb. The trail system accommodates walking, jogging, and bicycling, with a short spur leading to an observation platform overlooking a seasonal wetland. Picnic tables and a reservable shelter are located near the main parking area on Bethany Road. The preserve sits less than two miles from Northern Illinois University and the DeKalb County government complex, placing residents within a short drive of shopping centers along Sycamore Road and the DeKalb Public Library. Its location along the county’s growing trail network also allows longer rides or runs that link to nearby forest preserves in Sycamore and Cortland.
