Sterling Meadows Park sits on the north side of Crystal Lake, covering 68 acres of rolling terrain that includes both restored prairie and mature oak-hickory woodland. A 1.4-mile paved loop trail circles the park, connecting to the city’s larger Crystal Lake Trail system and providing direct off-street access to downtown shops and the Metra station. Two lighted ball diamonds, four tennis courts, and a regulation-size soccer field with permanent goals serve organized leagues, while three playgrounds—two with inclusive equipment—offer separate zones for different age groups. A fishing pier extends over a three-acre stocked pond, and an adjacent picnic shelter with restrooms and drinking fountains supports larger gatherings. The park’s western edge borders the 200-acre Sterns Woods & Fen Nature Preserve, giving residents immediate views of native wildflowers and wetland habitat without leaving city limits.
