Thompson Park spans 42 acres in northwest Champaign and is bordered by trails that connect directly to the city’s 100-mile network. The park includes a 1.2-mile paved loop used daily by residents for running and cycling, plus a separate crushed-granite path that circles the retention pond where herons and egrets are often seen. Two playgrounds, one designed for ages 2–5 and the other for 5–12, sit near the main parking lot, while four lighted tennis courts and two full-size basketball courts are located on the south side. A reservable shelter with restrooms and drinking fountains is available for group use. The park is three blocks from the Northwest Community Park District fitness center and less than a mile from Interstate 57, making it a convenient stop for commuters who want outdoor exercise before or after work. Mature trees shade most of the grounds, and mown turf fields accommodate both soccer practices and informal pick-up games.
Thompson Park currently has 8 single family homes for sale.
