Golf Club of the Everglades sits on a 220-acre site within the Big Cypress Basin, where fairways follow the natural drainage patterns of the former wetlands. The course was designed by Lee Trevino and features wide, flat landing areas framed by stands of slash pine and native sawgrass. Water hazards appear on fourteen holes, most notably on the par-4 third and the par-5 sixteenth, where ponds occupy the inside of doglegs. The greens are planted with TifEagle bermudagrass and average 6,500 square feet, with subtle contours that follow the original grade rather than manufactured mounding. Irrigation draws from on-site wells and reclaimed water, while the rough consists of a low-maintenance mix of bahia and native grasses kept at three inches. Maintenance records indicate that the course closes for aeration twice each year, typically in late May and early October, to manage the region’s high humidity and periodic heavy rainfall.
