Ironwood Golf & Country Club sits on a 200-acre tract that once served as a tobacco farm northeast of Greenville. The course was designed by George Cobb in 1963 and later refined by Ellis Maples, who lengthened several landing areas and repositioned bunkers to penalize errant approaches. Water comes into play on ten holes, most notably on the par-3 seventh, where a pond guards the entire left side, and on the closing hole, where a creek crosses the fairway 100 yards from the green. The fairways are predominantly Tifway 419 bermudagrass overseeded with rye, while the greens consist of bentgrass maintained at 0.110 inch during summer and 0.125 inch in winter. Irrigation is supplied by an on-site well and two retention ponds, ensuring consistent moisture levels even during peak summer heat. The practice facility includes a 300-yard driving range with target greens and a separate short-game area featuring two bentgrass putting greens and four bunkers replicating on-course conditions.
