Red Tail Golf and Country Club in Sorrento, Florida, occupies a 250-acre site that was once a citrus grove. The course routing follows the rolling topography created by the lake-dotted terrain, with fairways cut through live oak hammocks and pine flatwoods. Bermuda grass covers the fairways and tees, while the greens are maintained as TifEagle ultradwarf bermudagrass. Water hazards come into play on fourteen holes, most notably on the closing sequence where a large retention pond borders the final green. Native wetland areas preserved along several holes provide wildlife corridors and drainage. The practice facility includes a double-ended driving range, short-game area with multiple bunkers, and a separate putting green. A 30,000-square-foot clubhouse houses a pro shop, locker rooms, and a dining room overlooking the eighteenth green. The irrigation system draws from on-site wells and reuses stormwater collected in the course’s lakes.
