Champions Retreat Golf Club occupies 1,000 acres of pine forest and former farmland in Evans, Georgia, twenty miles northwest of Augusta. The property was developed in the late 1990s by a group of local investors who engaged three separate architects—Greg Norman, Arnold Palmer, and Jack Nicklaus—to create three distinct eighteen-hole layouts on the same site. The Norman course features rolling fairways lined with tall loblolly pines and several ponds fed by Rae’s Creek, while the Palmer course emphasizes strategic bunkering and natural elevation changes across former pastureland. The Nicklaus course, the last to open, incorporates wider fairways and fewer water hazards but demands accuracy on approaches guarded by deep greenside bunkers. The clubhouse, completed in 2000, is a two-story brick structure modeled after a historic Lowcountry plantation house. Practice facilities include a 30,000-square-foot putting green, a short-game area with multiple target greens, and a driving range with both natural turf and mats. Membership is limited to property owners within the adjacent gated community and a small number of outside members, with play managed through a forecaddie program.
