Heritage Oaks Golf & Country Club occupies a former citrus grove in eastern Sarasota, where live oaks and sabal palms frame fairways that run across flat, sandy terrain. The original 18-hole layout, designed by Ted McAnlis and opened in 1989, was later updated by Kipp Schulties. Water enters play on several holes in the form of irrigation canals and small ponds that once served the orchard. Bermudagrass covers the teeing areas and fairways, while TifEagle covers the greens. A driving range with both natural turf and artificial mats sits adjacent to a short-game area that includes a bunker complex and putting green. The stucco-and-tile clubhouse, built in the late 1980s, contains a grill room, locker rooms, and administrative offices. Cart paths follow the original agricultural roads, and drainage swales retain the grid pattern of the former grove.
