The course uses the flat terrain of the former pastureland and a network of drainage canals that divide many fairways and create natural landing zones. Water hazards appear on eleven holes, most notably on the closing stretch where the 16th, 17th, and 18th holes border a large lake. Several tee boxes sit on elevated mounds built from excavated material, giving players a clearer view of the landing areas. The irrigation system draws from on-site wells and a reclaimed-water pond, keeping Bermuda grass fairways and greens consistently firm. The clubhouse, completed in 1998, houses a practice range with both natural turf and artificial mats, plus a short-game area with two practice greens. Membership is open to residents of Lakewood Ranch and to non-residents who pay annual dues.
