Ballantyne Country Club occupies a 250-acre site in south Charlotte, bordered by the Little Sugar Creek greenway and the Ballantyne mixed-use development. Designed by the firm of Rees Jones, the course opened in 1998 and features bentgrass greens and bermuda fairways. Water comes into play on nine holes, including the signature par-3 twelfth, which plays across a pond to a green guarded by three bunkers. The routing alternates between open meadow holes and tighter corridors lined with Carolina hardwoods. Elevation changes reach 40 feet, most noticeably on the uphill finishing stretch of holes sixteen through eighteen. Native fescue borders many fairways and rough, providing contrast to the closely mown playing surfaces. The practice facility includes a double-ended driving range, short-game area, and putting green. The clubhouse, built in the Georgian style, contains locker rooms, a grill room, and a ballroom used for club events.
