Glen Kernan Golf & Country Club sits on a former 19th-century plantation site in Jacksonville’s Southside. The course was routed by Mark McCumber in 1997 and later refined by Bobby Weed, who adjusted green contours and fairway widths to accommodate modern equipment while preserving the original land plan. The layout threads through stands of live oaks and magnolias, with several holes crossing a tidal tributary that feeds into the St. Johns River. Bermuda-grass fairways are overseeded in winter, and the TifEagle greens are maintained at speeds that average 11.5 on the Stimpmeter. Drainage relies on a network of French drains and retention ponds that handle the area’s frequent heavy rains. The practice facility includes a 10-acre driving range with target greens and a short-game area featuring multiple sand and chipping complexes. Club amenities are limited to a modest clubhouse with a grill and pro shop; there is no lodging on site. The club operates as a private equity membership, with play restricted to members and accompanied guests.
