Idle Hour Golf & Country Club, Macon, GA, Real Estate

Idle Hour Golf & Country Club occupies a rolling site along the Ocmulgee River in Macon, Georgia. Designed in 1928 by George Cobb, the course threads through mature stands of pine and hardwood, with several holes running parallel to the water and others climbing short slopes that tilt toward the fairways. The greens are bentgrass and maintained firm, while the fairways sit on well-drained upland soils that shed water quickly after summer storms. A modest creek crosses four holes, creating natural carries on the front nine and a forced lay-up on the seventeenth. The routing alternates between open parkland stretches and tighter corridors where overhanging limbs narrow the landing areas. Practice facilities include a driving range with target greens and a short-game area adjacent to the clubhouse, which dates to the club’s founding and retains its original brick-and-timber construction.
