Magnolia Greens Golf Plantation occupies 560 acres of former farmland and pine forest in Leland, North Carolina, between the Cape Fear River and the Brunswick County mainland. The course, designed by Tom Jackson and opened in 1993, incorporates remnants of the original drainage ditches and pond network that once served agricultural operations. Its fairways thread through stands of mature longleaf and loblolly pine, while large, contoured greens are guarded by deep bunkers and runoff areas that drain into man-made lakes. The front nine moves through relatively open terrain, whereas the back nine narrows as it enters denser woodland and crosses several tidal creeks that are influenced by the nearby river. A central clubhouse, built in a low-country style with wide porches, overlooks the eighteenth green and serves as the hub for practice facilities that include a driving range, short-game area, and putting green. The property is bordered on two sides by U.S. Highway 17 and by residential subdivisions developed after the course opened.
