Calumet Country Club occupies a flat parcel along the Calumet River corridor in Homewood, Illinois. The course was laid out by Tom Bendelow in 1901 and has been modified only once, by Ken Killian in 1977, when a handful of teeing areas were repositioned. The fairways follow the natural contours of the old river plain, producing long, straight stretches punctuated by occasional cross-bunkers and a scattering of mature oak and hickory trees. The greens are built from native push-up soil and are kept at a moderate speed that rewards accurate approach shots rather than excessive spin. Water appears on eight holes, most often as small lateral ponds that force players to choose between laying up or attempting a carry. The clubhouse, a single-story brick structure erected in 1926, sits near the first tee and contains a grill room and pro shop. Membership is limited to residents of the surrounding south-suburban communities, and the club hosts occasional USGA qualifiers as well as regular events for the Chicago District Golf Association.
