Temple Terrace Country Club, Temple Terrace, FL, Real Estate
Temple Terrace Country Club sits on the north bank of the Hillsborough River, where the river’s wide bend shapes the opening and closing holes. The course was laid out in 1922 by Tom Bendelow and retains several original bunkers that sit flush to the fairways rather than guarding greens. Mature live oaks line the perimeter of many fairways, their limbs low enough to influence shot selection on windy days. The greens are built on the natural sandy ridges of the site and drain quickly after summer storms, keeping play moving even in the wet season. Water comes into play on ten holes, most notably along the river-side stretch from the sixth through the ninth, where tidal movement can affect lies in the bank-side rough. Irrigation is drawn from on-site wells rather than municipal supply, giving the turf a slightly firmer, faster character than many Florida courses. Cart paths follow the original sand trails that once connected the early-1900s golf colony cottages, and several of those structures still stand behind the tenth tee.
