Ancala Country Club sits in the foothills of the McDowell Mountains on Scottsdale’s northeast side. The course follows the natural desert terrain, moving through arroyos, over small rises, and around clusters of saguaro and palo verde. Fairways are bordered by native desert landscaping that remains largely undisturbed, and the rough transitions quickly into wash areas and boulder-strewn slopes. Several holes play across or along seasonal drainage channels that carry runoff from the mountains after storms. Greens are set on subtle slopes with firm, fast surfaces that reward approach shots kept below the hole. Bunkering is modest in volume but placed to catch shots that miss targets on the correct line. The layout finishes with a gradual climb toward the clubhouse, offering views back across the valley to the Phoenix Mountains in the distance. The club maintains a low-profile entrance and quiet practice areas tucked behind desert vegetation.
