Gainey Ranch Golf Club occupies a 27-hole layout on the grounds of the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Gainey Ranch. The resort’s three nine-hole courses—the Arroyo, the Dunes, and the Lakes—were designed by the firm of Benz & Poellot and opened in 1984. Each nine winds through desert washes, stands of mesquite, and stands of mature eucalyptus and cottonwood planted along artificial water features. The Arroyo nine is the most open, crossing several shallow arroyos that channel seasonal runoff. The Dunes nine plays across low, rolling sand ridges stabilized by native grasses. The Lakes nine follows a chain of ponds and streams that serve both irrigation and aesthetic functions. Bermuda-grass fairways are overseeded with rye in winter, and the club maintains bent-grass greens throughout the year. Cart paths are paved and separated from play, and the course is bordered on the north and east by the resort’s casita-style guest rooms and on the west by the Phoenix Mountains Preserve.
