Old Chatham Golf Club occupies a former farm site northeast of Durham, where rolling Piedmont terrain has been shaped into an 18-hole layout. The course alternates between open, gently undulating fairways and tighter corridors lined by mature hardwoods. Several holes play across natural drainage swales that carry stormwater from the surrounding watersheds, creating strategic carries and uneven lies. Greens are built to USGA specifications and are generally firm, with subtle contouring that rewards approach shots played to the proper quadrant. Bunkering is modest in volume but positioned to penalize both short-sided misses and overly aggressive lines. The routing returns to the clubhouse after nine holes, and the back nine finishes with a pair of holes that play across the same creek corridor encountered earlier in the round, offering a sense of closure without overt symmetry.
