The course was built in 1960 as a university practice facility and has since opened to the public while remaining under NCSU ownership. Bermuda grass covers the teeing areas and fairways, while the putting surfaces are T-1 bentgrass. Irrigation is supplied by on-site wells supplemented by reclaimed water from the university’s treatment plant. Maintenance is performed by a mix of full-time staff and student interns from the NCSU turfgrass program, allowing continual observation of new cultivars and equipment under active play conditions. A modest brick clubhouse, erected in 1984, houses a snack bar and the golf-team locker rooms. The property also contains a short-game area and a single practice putting green adjacent to the first tee.
