White Deer Run Golf Course occupies a 200-acre site in Vernon Hills, Illinois, about 35 miles northwest of downtown Chicago. The course was designed by Dick Nugent and opened in 1994. Its layout threads through stands of mature oaks and maples, with several holes playing along or across the Des Plaines River and a network of ponds and wetlands. The terrain is gently rolling, punctuated by strategic sand bunkers and native-grass waste areas. Fairways are lined with Kentucky bluegrass, and the putting surfaces consist of creeping bentgrass maintained at tournament speeds. Irrigation is supplied by an on-site well and lake system. A two-story clubhouse completed in 1996 houses a grill room, locker facilities, and an outdoor patio overlooking the 18th green. The property is owned and operated by the Vernon Hills Park District.
